Safety and Supervision

Safety and Supervision
The safety of our students is at the forefront of all Program activities. Students will be led in small groups, and the resident staff/faculty (adult) to student ratio will be approximately 1:10. Students will be supervised both on campus and during all excursions and off-site activities. While attendees do have opportunities for independent time, all students will remain in small groups with adult staff at designated meeting spots. The conference faculty is comprised of two Program Directors and a team of trained educators both at the secondary and collegiate level. All students must reside in Mason's secure residence halls that are monitored at all times by adult faculty members. Parents and guardians can reach a member of our team at any time during the conference.

Each summer, WYSE and WJMC recruits award-winning faculty from across the country to lead groups of 25 students throughout the week of conference activities. Our WYSE faculty are experienced environmental educators and practitioners representing the best educational, government, and private organizations across the country.  WJMC faculty are creative, innovative and knowledgeable journalism teachers and advisors representing some of the best student media programs across the country.
