I was wondering why we have to schedule a meeting with a senator or house representative.

Hi Danielle!

Meeting with either your Representative or Senator provides a unique viewpoint into the workings of our government. In addition, it provides you with an opportunity to have your voice heard with the individual who is representing you here in Washington. I know that for me, meeting with my senator provided a new insight into the work that he does and allowed me to voice my opinions on legislation that would affect me and my family. Also, I was able to receive a tour of the Capitol from a member of my Senator's office (including a ride on the private Capitol subway!).  Keep in mind, though, that these meetings are not required, but we do encourage students to explore this option.

Let me know if you have any further questions on arranging a meeting!
